Introduction

In the heart of the Texas Hill Country, where the air is as rich with hops as it is with history, lies Twisted X Brewing Company, a gem in the crown of Texas Beer. My journey to explore the finest brews led me to their doorstep, where the aroma of craft beer promised an unforgettable experience. In this review, I’ll share my delightful journey through their unique flavors, rich history, and the vibrant atmosphere that Twisted X is known for, ensuring beer lovers understand why it’s a must-visit destination.

What Makes Twisted X Brewery Different?

The Indoor/Outdoor venue with activities and multiple food options.

Brewery History and Facility

Twisted X Brewing Company, nestled in the Texas Hill Country, has been creating unique, quality craft beers that embody the Texan spirit since its inception. With a dedication to innovation and quality, they’ve transformed from a small setup into a sprawling facility that’s as welcoming as it is impressive. Here, tradition meets modernity, as the brewers pour their passion into every batch, ensuring a true Texas Beer experience for all who visit.

You will find Twisted X Brewery in Dripping Springs, TX, near the corner of Ranch Road 12 and Highway 150. The building sports a true Texas charm, with lots of wood construction and accents. It is room indoors and out, so either seating option will work for you. Outside of just sitting and drinking beer, there is live music playing regularly (during our visit we listened to Anthony Garcia: a good singer and an amazing guitarist), as well as various other games and activities for adults and kids. Yes, Twisted X is kid friendly (and dog friendly).

As far as food goes, one thing you will notice is the multiple food trucks surrounding the brewery, each offering something different. The trucks are far enough away so things are crowded which is nice. The food is very good, and I recommend if you go to Twisted X to take an appetite with you.

For those non-beer drinkers who visit Twisted X with beer drinkers, they do serve a few wines from William Chris Vineyards (see review) and Lost Draw Vineyards.

Beer Highlights

Ok, so let’s get to the beers. I took the flight of beer so I could taste as many as possible. My flight came with six options (out of 7 beers) so I had to drop one. I chose to drop one of the stouts and go with the other six beers. As far as pricing, pints/glasses cost between $6.50 and $8, with the Imperial Oatmeal Stout costing $10 in a snifter. This is decent pricing for craft draft beer, and I am happy to see they are not overcharging for beer.

MCCONAUHAZE: A good 6.5% ABV Hazy IPA (also known as a New England IPA), is a delightfully cloudy beer with a golden to orange hue, with a soft, smooth texture. It has low bitterness (22 IBU) but high hop flavor, and bursting with fruity and floral notes like citrus, tropical fruit, or pine. The aroma is robust and hoppy, inviting you to take a sip and enjoy the interplay of flavors. I enjoyed this one even though I am not usually a hazy guy.

AUSTIN LAGER: This one is a lightly hopped lager with 5.2% ABV and 19 IBU. I found it to be a middle of the road lager as it lacked any complexity in my opinion. It is a nice, clean beer and would be best on a warm summer day.

PITMASTER: This Pilsner was nice as it was crisp and clear and had more flavor than the lager. Again, a beer I would pin for warm weather drinking.

GULF KOLSCH: This Kolsch is a 5.1% ABV and 20 IBU epitome of a Kolsch beer. If you typically like German beer, you will like this one.

ALE OF LIGHTS: This gingerbread amber was one of my favorites. At 5/3% ABV and 22 IBU, it is still lower in bitterness than I usually prefer, but I found this one tasty. If I were to order a full pint, it this would be my second favorite.

VADER BOMB: This one was my favorite, and if I was to order a full glass, it would be this Imperial Oatmeal Stout. At 10.9% ABV, it mirrors some of the best stouts I have had. It had a creamy head and a beautiful flavor sitting in between the more “burnt” flavored stouts and a porter. I highly recommend this one.

Other Beers

There was one beer I did not taste, and one Cider on the guest tap.

Quikie: This is a Milk Stout at 4.9% ABV and 25 IBU.

Austin Eastciders Original Dry Cider: A dry cider at 5% ABV.
