What Makes This Place Different?
Texas Wine Collective uniquely unites three distinct Texas wineries, Lost Oak Winery, Brennan Vineyards, and McPherson Cellars, each bringing its expertise, allowing visitors a diverse and rich tasting experience under one roof.
My Wine Pick
Although there are several wonderful wines at the Collective, the 2022 TWC Dry Muscat stands out as a true Texas gem. This wine captures the essence of the Texas Hill Country, presenting vibrant notes of peach, honeysuckle, and a delicate floral aroma that make it the perfect choice for those looking to experience Texas’ unique terroir. It’s a crowd-pleaser with a bright, refreshing finish that keeps you coming back for more.
History and Facility
Texas Wine Collective, originally known as 4.0 Cellars, is located just outside Fredericksburg, a town famed for its wineries and vineyards. The Collective has established itself as a premiere destination for experiencing Texas wineries since it opened, gaining popularity for bringing together the unique styles of Lost Oak Winery, Brennan Vineyards, and McPherson Cellars. The modern tasting room and picturesque outdoor spaces offer a relaxing atmosphere for tastings, while the staff is both knowledgeable and passionate about Texas wines, always eager to share insights into the craft of Texas winemaking. The venue also includes a selection of gourmet items to pair with wines, making it a great spot for enjoying a light snack alongside tastings.
While the tasting room is rather large, seating indoors is limited. There is plenty of bar space for standing and tasting or drinking. However, when you go, you’ll definitely want to be outside to enjoy the beauty of the facility.
As far as food goes there is a charcuterie board option that is very good ($30), and on Thursday thru Sunday there is a food truck (Cork & Fork) serving salads and sandwiches.
The Wines
Memorable Wine(s): 2022 TWC Dry Muscat, 2021 Lost Oak Mourvèdre
Very Good, But Not Memorable Wine(s): 2023 Trebbiano, 2021 Brennan Vineyards Mourvèdre
Other Wine(s): There are a myriad of options including but not limited to Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Tempranillo, and Muscats.
Other Wines
When tasting at Texas Wine Collective, you have a choice of three different tastings: Reserve Red ($30), The Collective ($25), and Light and Sweet ($25). Each one consists of five tastings. The Collective is a typical 2-white, 1-Rose’, and 2-Red tasting.
We enjoyed our tasting outside, accompanied by a nice charcuterie board.
The wine selection overall is very good, as you have three wineries (plus the TWC branded wines) to choose from.
Overall value of the wines is good, as there are all good tasting wines with the most expensive hitting the $52 mark. The whites are a bit pricey with most being over $30, and most of the reds are between $34 and $52 per bottle.
Wine Club
The Texas Wine Collective Wine Club offers an exclusive opportunity to explore the breadth of Texas wines. With three membership options—each focusing on selections from Lost Oak Winery, Brennan Vineyards, and McPherson Cellars—members can enjoy handpicked wines from each partner winery. Club members receive five wine allocations per year, with a 15, 20, and 25% discount on wine which is very generous. Also included is exclusive access to member-only events, discounts on purchases, and complimentary tastings, making it an ideal way to experience Texas wine throughout the year. Membership also grants access to special releases and club-only wines, which is a real treat for any Texas wine enthusiast.
Additionally, there is a “Member’s Choice” wine club where members can choose their wines (for 6-bottle and 12-bottle members), and a Cider Club supplied through Hye Cider Company, which you can also taste at TWC.
