The Winery

The Lonesome Vine Winery is located in Montague, Texas, in a rural area about 80 miles Northwest of Fort Worth. It sits in the Texoma AVA. You have travel down a long gravel road to get there, so consider it a remote winery. However, once you get there, you will enjoy the natural surroundings and the “down home” feel the winery will give you. The tasting room is not large, but it is full of character. There is a nice patio to enjoy your wine as well.

In case you are wondering, the winery is named after the famous miniseries “Lonesome Dove” and you’ll see evidence of that when you are there. The owners are super nice and obviously enjoy what they do.

The Wine

The wine selection is not extensive, with only a half-dozen reds and a couple of whites (PIcpoul Blanc). Tried all the reds and the Lonesome Vine Picpoul Blanc, and all were quite nice. My favorite red was the Mourvèdre’, with the “Come Sundown” GSM blend coming in second. The price of their wines is very reasonable and better than most Texas wineries. Their holistic and conventional farming methods mean no pesticides and truly natural wines.

In Summary

This was a great find, and I really enjoyed my time there. The environment is quaint and natural, and the wines and hospitality are excellent. Congratulations to the owners (Andrew and Kristi) of Lonesome Vine Winery for doing such a great job!
