The Venue
The Rusty Spur Winery and Bistro is a quaint destination on the outskirts of Nacogdoches. Formally a chicken farm, this new venue (just built in October 2025) is a very cozy tasting room with a nice food menu. I had their grilled cheese panini which as fantastic. Prices are good as well. Additionally, they have a nice selection of Texas wine at reasonable prices.
The Wine
I did the tasting of red wines and tried the Mourvèdre’, Tempranillo, and the Granate, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Tempranillo. While the tempranillo was very nice, the Granate was my favorite. My wife had the 2023 Texas Verano, a dry white blend of Viognier, Roussanne, and Marsanne, and she really enjoyed it. I tried it as well and found it to be very refreshing. The wine prices are very reasonable compared to other Texas wineries. Tastings are $12 for a selection of 3 wines.

The Summary
If you are in the Nacogdoches area and you have some time to spare, I recommend heading out to the Rusty Spur Winery and Bistro. Make sure you have at least a small appetite so you can try one of their paninis. And, of course, make sure you try some of their nice Texas wines.
