What Makes This Place Different?

Perissos Vineyards prides itself on being an estate winery, meaning most of the grapes are grown on-site and meticulously cared for, ensuring the highest quality in every bottle. Their vineyards are vast.

My Wine Pick

One standout wine during my visit was the 2020 Petite Sirah Free Run. This bold red wine is packed with rich flavors of berries and plum, making it a fantastic choice for lovers of medium-bodied reds. With its velvety texture and balanced tannins, it’s the perfect wine to enjoy alongside grilled meats or hearty Texas barbecue.

History and Facility

Perissos Vineyards was founded by the Martin family with a vision to create authentic Texas wine using traditional methods and estate-grown grapes. The name “Perissos” is derived from a Greek word meaning “exceedingly abundant,” which reflects their philosophy of creating more than just great wine, but also an abundant experience for visitors. Set on 16 beautiful acres, the vineyard offers stunning views of the surrounding hills and granite outcrops. The tasting room is rustic yet elegant, with a warm, inviting atmosphere where guests can sample wines in comfort. The outdoor seating areas provide a perfect place to sip wine while taking in the gorgeous landscape.

The Wines

I liked that there are a large number of estate wines at Perissos. Most of the time you go to a winery and they have one or two estate wines, and the rest are sourced from the High Planes of Texas. Perissos is different, and their huge vineyard sources many of their wines.

Memorable Wine(s): 2020 Petite Sirah Free Run, 2022 Meritage

Very Good, But Not Memorable Wine(s): Tempranillo Estate, Jillianico Estate, Viognier Estate, Aglianico Press Fraction

Other Wine(s): Cabernet Sauvignon, Montepulciano, Malbec, Picpoul Blanc, Sangiovese, Syrah Estate, among many others and various blends

  • Overall value of the wines: GOOD
  • Cost of Whites / Rose’s: The whites range between $24 and $38.
  • Cost of Reds: The reds range between $30 and $60
  • Most Expensive: The most expensive wine are various reds at $60.

While the pricing on the Perissos wines is not out of line, it does sit at the higher range for their better red products. I wish I could have tried more of the reds in the $50-$60 range, but there is always limited time and a limit on how much you taste. Knocking $5 off of the red prices would put their value squarely in the VERY GOOD category as the wine supports it.

Members enjoy a selection of the winery’s esteemed 100% Texas-grown wines, with opportunities to participate in special events and enjoy live music and food vendors on weekends.
