I went to Middleton with no expectations but walked out happy. I found two of the five beers I tried were in alignment with my preferred tastes, which might sound bad but is quite normal. I like the venue being more in the country, and I like both the indoor and outdoor areas. I definitely recommend two of the IPA's.

Introduction

From the very heart of the Lone Star State comes a brewery that melds artistry with craftsmanship, one pint at a time – Middleton Brewing. Embarking on a delightful journey of hops, malt, and magic, I was captivated by both the stories behind each beer and their luscious flavors, leaving me thirsting for more.

Brewery’s History and Facility

It is said that the best brews emerge from a confluence of passion, history, and innovation, and Middleton Brewing is the embodiment of that mantra. Tucked away off Old Ranch Road 12 and about 10 miles from downtown San Marcos, TX, Middleton Brewing was founded by passionate brewers who wanted to bring forward the authentic taste of Texas. This brewing haven has swiftly carved its niche, establishing itself as an integral part of the Texan craft beer lineage. The facility, nestled amidst the picturesque landscapes of the hill country, exudes an old-world charm juxtaposed with state-of-the-art brewing equipment. As I walked through the brewery, the gleaming fermenters and the aromatic brew house were a testament to their commitment to quality and tradition.

The brewery, while intimate, is adept at producing an impressive selection of beers, likely showcasing 7-10 brews at any given moment. The interiors echo Texan hospitality, characterized by rustic furnishings and an abundance of sunlight streaming in. Patrons can opt for the vibrant outdoor seating or the cozy indoor arrangement – both settings perfect to savor your favored brew.

Sunday afternoons are especially lively with live music sessions from 3-6pm indoors. And while you’re engrossed in the melodies, don’t miss out on the fresh popcorn on offer. For those with furry friends, rejoice! Middleton is a haven for dogs – so bring along your loyal companion for a relaxed day out.

The Beers

Middleton Brewing offers not just beers, but a symphony of flavors that are quintessentially Texan. Each brew tells a story, each sip a narrative, and every moment spent there a cherished memory. The inviting aura of the brewery, combined with their eclectic range of beers, makes it a Texan treasure for aficionados and novices alike.

During my sojourn, I encountered seven beers on tap. Opting for the sampler, I had the liberty to choose five for a closer examination. This cost-effective sampler, priced at $14, gave me the equivalent of about 2 pints. As I made my selections, the attentive bar staff ensured I kept track by jotting them down on my sample tray.

While I didn’t venture into the Hefeweizen and the Easy Rider Kolsch, both priced at a reasonable $5 a glass and with an ABV of 4.5%, I did dive deep into the other offerings.

Black Lab Porter: A semi-sweet porter that promises a chocolatey and roasty medley. While the flavor profile was on point, it did lack the desired fizz. It’s a good option for those who prefer their porters smooth. 6% ABV.

Garnet Amber: This brew struck me as a lovechild of a porter and a stout. With a better carbonation game than the Black Lab, it holds its own on the flavor front. A balanced brew at 5.5% ABV.

Pepperhead IPA: A daring take on the IPA, where hops meet the zest of jalapenos. It’s an exhilarating brew for those who cherish the kick of jalapenos. A robust 7% ABV.

Juicy Visions IPA: A delightful fusion of hops, this IPA showcases a harmonious blend of bitterness and citrusy floral notes. It’s a must-try for anyone visiting. 6% ABV.

Third Coast IPA: A shining star among the lot. Vibrant in appearance and with a perfect hoppy bite, it was the highlight of my tasting experience. A beer I’d gladly order again. 7% ABV.

The Final Pour: Reflecting on Middleton

I went to Middleton with no expectations but walked out happy. I found two of the five beers I tried were in alignment with my preferred tastes, which might sound bad but is quite normal. I like the venue being more in the country, and I like both the indoor and outdoor areas. I went during a slow time and did expect a little more banter with the person behind the bar, but I was not a match for her laptop. I think a little “so, do you have a favorite yet”, or “how are you liking the beers so far” would have gone a long way on the service side of things.

Ok, to go along with your amazing Middleton brew, you need to complete the experience with the appropriate glasses and accessories. Don’t diminish your experience!
