Introduction

In my journey through the world of Texas Breweries, few have managed to capture the authentic essence of Texas Beer quite like Real Ale Brewing Co. Nestled in the picturesque heart of the Lone Star State in Blanco, Texas, this brewery not only offers a sensational array of beers but also encapsulates the true spirit of Texan hospitality and craftsmanship. This review dives deep into the history, the scenic facility, and, most importantly, the beers that make Real Ale Brewing Co. a must-visit destination for any Texas Beer enthusiast.

Brewery History and Facility

Founded in 1996, Real Ale Brewing Co. has evolved from a fledgling enterprise to a beacon in the Texas Beer scene. With an unwavering commitment to authenticity, quality, and craft, they have etched their name into the annals of Texas Breweries’ history.

The facility itself stands as a testament to the brand’s ethos. Set against open grounds, visitors are graced with the freedom to roam, relax, and revel in the beauty that surrounds them. The verdant landscapes, coupled with the aromatic allure of brewing beer, truly make for a sensory delight, solidifying its reputation as a premier beer destination.

Beer Highlights

Real Ale Brewing offers a variety of beer options, probably surpassing most Texas breweries as most are in the 5-10 range. During my visit, I had to choose between 18 different options from light to dark. Since I tend to sway towards the more robustly flavored beers here were my choices. At 7.1% ABV, it sits right where it should for a mainstream IPA.

Octoberfest: A seasonal delight that’s eagerly anticipated by many, the Octoberfest seamlessly marries traditional German brewing techniques with Texan flair. Its amber hue, malty backbone, and subtle hop presence create a harmonious blend that’s both refreshing and rich.

Axis IPA: My favorite! A testament to Real Ale’s brewing prowess, Axis IPA stands out with its tropical fruit notes and crisp bitterness. An aromatic journey of citrus, pine, and a hint of floral, this beer is a vibrant dance of flavors that IPA lovers will cherish.

Imperium: Decadence in liquid form, Imperium showcases the darker and more luxurious side of beer. With notes of dried fruit, toffee, and a whisper of licorice, it’s a deep, complex brew meant to be savored.

Crash Pad: My second favorite, although I typically don’t go for a hazy IPA. An ode to adventurers and thrill-seekers, Crash Pad is an imperial IPA that’s both bold and easy-drinking. It encapsulates hints of citrus zest, a touch of grainy sweetness, and a clean finish that beckons for another sip. Lots of hops flavor in this one to go along with the 9+% ABV.

Other Beers

As stated earlier, there are 18 options to choose from at Real Ale Brewing, and no one will sit down and try all 18 in one sitting, including me! But here are a few additional highlights from the selection.

Hans’ Pils: A refreshing take on the traditional German pilsner, offering a crisp finish with a slight hoppy bite. 5.3% ABV.

Fireman’s #4: A smooth blonde ale that’s both light and flavorful, perfect for a hot Texas day. This 5.1% ABV Blonde Ale is Real Ale Brewing Company’s best-selling beer. Texans just love it.

Devil’s Backbone: A Belgian style Tripel with a rich complexity of fruity esters and spicy phenols. A high 8.1% ABV with a low-medium IBU at 35. (note: A Belgian Tripel is a strong pale ale, between 8 to 12% ABV).

Hop Sprocket Hazy IPA: Sitting right in there with a 7% ABV, Hop Sprocket is a massively dry-hopped IPA for the those preferring a sweeter note such as fruit or citrus. This was probably my next taste pick.

Conclusion

Real Ale Brewing Co., with its expansive offerings and enchanting location, truly stands as a jewel in the crown of Texas Breweries. Whether you’re a seasoned beer aficionado or just dipping your toes into the world of Texas Beer, this brewery promises an experience like no other. This is a great facility to go on a nice weather day so you can enjoy the beautiful outdoors surrounding the facility. There are also food truck options if you need some nourishment to accompany your alcohol intake.

There is plenty of parking as well, so don’t worry about that on your visit. I have seen Real Ale products on the shelves at my local grocery stores and convenient stores and have probably only ever purchased the Axis IPA before visiting the brewery. In retrospect, that was a mistake, as it limited me to not trying some of their other great offerings. The brewery trip gave me an opportunity to expand my reach, and I have some new options going forward.

Ok, to go along with your amazing Real Ale Brewing Co. beer, you need to complete the experience with the appropriate beer glasses and accessories. Don’t diminish your experience!
